Entrevistamos a la familia Masiá Doménech

La familia Masiá Doménech está formada por cuatro miembros: los padres Lluís y Gloria y los mellizos Pep y Gloria. Pertenecen a la Fundación Síndrome de Dravet desde el pasado mes de julio, 2020. La vida cambia cuando a uno de tus hijos le diagnostican síndrome de Dravet, y más si en la familia también está su hermana melliza que también es un bebé. A pesar de las dificultades, en esta entrevista verás la fuerza y determinación que tiene la familia. Démosles visibilidad para concienciar sobre el síndrome de Dravet y la importancia de la investigación para mejorar el día a día de las familias.

¿A qué se dedican mamá y papá?
Mamá es agente de seguros y papá es profesor de FP de cocina y restauración.

¿Alguno a la profesión sanitaria?
No, mamá es licenciada en derecho y papá es diplomado en turismo.

PREGUNTAS SOBRE PEP

¿Con quién juega?
Pep juega mucho con su hermana melliza Gloria.

¿Qué le gusta?
Le gusta mucho todo lo que tenga ruedas y los balones. Y le encanta la playa, la piscina, y la hora del baño.

¿Qué le disgusta?
No le gusta nada que le limpiemos la nariz con suero.

¿Le gustan los animales?
Sí, le encantan los perros, y los toca siempre que puede y se le acercan.

¿Cuáles son sus dibujos animados favoritos?
Le encanta Pocoyó y Cocomelon.

¿Tiene algo que le encante?
Tiene una manta, de la que no se separara.

¿Tiene berrinches con frecuencia?
Síííí, tiene bastantes berrinches, pero es sobre todo cuando no hace lo que quiere.

¿Cómo le tranquilizáis?
Intentamos despistarlo, aunque no siempre podemos…

PREGUNTAS SOBRE EL DIAGNÓSTICO DE PEP

¿Cuándo le diagnosticaron el síndrome de Dravet? ¿Qué edad tenía?
A Pep le hicieron las pruebas genéticas con 6 meses, y a pesar de que le salió mutación en el gen SCN1A en un principio nos dijeron que no era Dravet. Fue 5 meses después y tras un estatus epiléptico, cuando le diagnosticaron Dravet. Pep tenía 11 meses.

¿Conocías la enfermedad?
Sí, la conocíamos porque a raíz de su epilepsia nos pusimos a leer mucho y a investigar.

¿A quién pedisteis ayuda/consejo para que os guiara?
Cuando íbamos al colegio, tuvimos la suerte de conocer a unos papás con una hija con síndrome de Dravet, y nos ayudaron mucho. Luego también la Fundación, y profesionales médicos con los que hemos ido contactando.

¿Sigue el paciente algún tratamiento?
Sí, Pep actualmente toma Depakine, Noiafren y Topiramato.

¿Ha cambiado con el tiempo?
Sí, empezó con Keppra, pero después de dos estatus epilépticos, decidieron modificar el tratamiento.

¿Hubieseis hecho algo diferente?
No, nosotros estamos y vivimos convencidos que hemos hecho todo lo que ha estado en nuestras manos, y queriendo, no podemos hacer ya más, porque no depende de nosotros.

¿Algún consejo para las nuevas familias?
Les diríamos que no se rindan, y que pregunten mucho.

¿Hay algo que creas que necesita una mejora inmediata del sistema sanitario?
Sí, primero que nada, se necesita invertir mucho más en investigación, es fundamental. Y luego, en nuestra opinión, muchas veces por parte del personal médico se necesitaría que dieran más información a los padres. Está claro que nadie sabemos qué va a pasar, pero a veces facilitaría que ellos mismos se fueran adelantando a la enfermedad.

PREGUNTAS SOBRE EL DÍA A DÍA

¿Cómo de difícil es compaginar trabajo y a un hijo con síndrome de Dravet?
Lo peor es no saber qué va a pasar, y estar pendientes del termómetro, médicos, pruebas y terapias. Para nosotros es un poco más complicado aún, porque Pep tiene una hermana melliza, y eso muchas veces no facilita las cosas, si no que las complica.
En cuanto al trabajo, mi marido se ha cogido una excedencia y yo como soy autónoma, tengo la suerte de poder ir compaginando.

¿Cuál es vuestra rutina?
No tenemos una rutina clara. Normalmente salen los dos a pasear mañana y tarde, en casa juegan, también ven dibujos, hacen su siesta… A las 20:30h estamos siempre en casa, para duchas y cenas. Las noches de Pep son frenéticas, duerme poco y mal, y nos vamos acoplando según el día.

¿Y durante los fines de semana?
Pues durante el fin de semana básicamente es la misma rutina, sólo que estamos los cuatro juntos. Entre semana nos ayudan los abuelos.
Y si vemos que un fin de semana va a hacer buen tiempo, nos solemos ir a Gandía: nos despejamos y bajamos a la playa, que a los dos les gusta mucho.

¿Cuál es la actividad favorita de Pep?
Yo diría que el baño y el parque.

¿Cómo está siendo la pandemia con un bebé con síndrome de Dravet?
Ha sido duro y hemos pasado mucho pánico por el riesgo que conllevaba. Aunque también es verdad que, egoístamente, a nosotros dentro de todo nos ha venido bien. Pep ha pasado muy buen invierno, no se ha resfriado ni ha caído malito, con lo cual no ha tenido crisis. Por lo que, teniendo en cuenta que las crisis de Pep hasta ahora han sido por foco infeccioso, el hecho de llevar mascarilla, y ser una familia burbuja, nos ha favorecido en ese sentido.

¿Buscáis ayuda psicológica especializada?
Sí.

¿Acudís al fisio o recibís masajes?
Nos gustaría, pero con dos bebés, la verdad que no tenemos tiempo…

¿Os sentís apoyados y escuchados por la Fundación Síndrome de Dravet?
Sí, para nosotros ha sido un alivio encontrarlos.

¿Alguna petición?
Pediríamos una cura, ese es nuestro sueño y nuestra meta.

¿Alguna recomendación para futuras familias?
Que no se detengan ante nada ni nadie, que somos nosotros los que mejor conocemos a nuestros hijos. Y que piensen que cualquier decisión que tomen, va a ser siempre la mejor y la más acertada para ellos. Que no tengan miedo, que pregunten, que lean y que busquen la ayuda que necesiten.

TERMS & CONDITIONS

The Dravet Syndrome Conference 2023 is organised by Dravet Syndrome Foundation Spain, whose registered office is located at Calle Doctor Fleming, 30, 28036 Madrid, Spain.

The conference shall take place at the Official College of Nursing of Madrid, at Avenida de Menéndez Pelayo, 93, 28007 Madrid, Spain, on Thursday 23rd of March 2023. Attendance to this conference is free of charge, but mandatory for organisational reasons.

Participants must register online at www.dravetconference.com. Upon registration, each participant will receive an electronic confirmation by email. On-site registration will not be be possible. If a participant has not received the official email registration confirmation within 3 days, they must contact the conference secretariat at [email protected].

The conference registration includes: Attendance to all sessions, oral and visual presentations, all coffee and lunch breaks, and conference documentation with all information about the event. The registration does not include travel and accommodation costs or any other personal expenses.

Admittance to the conference without registration cannot be granted.

Conference Attendance
Upon arrival at the Official College of Nursing of Madrid the day of the event, all participants have to check-in at the onsite Conference Registration Desk. The desk will open on 23rd of March at 8:30 a.m. Upon registration onsite, the conference team will provide participants with information about the event and a badge, which should be worn visibly at all times. The personalised badge authorises participants to attend all conference sessions, and lunch and coffee breaks.

Cancellation Policy
Dravet Syndrome Foundation Spain reserves the right to cancel any registration forthwith and without liability on its part in the event of any damage to, or destruction of the venue by fire, shortage of labour, strikes, industrial unrest, public health measures, or any other cause beyond the control of the Dravet Syndrome Foundation Spain, which shall prevent it from performing its obligations. In these circumstances, every effort will be made to find an alternative format/venue or propose a new date for the conference. Should the conference be cancelled for any reason, airfares, hotels, or other costs incurred by the participants are not reimbursed by the Dravet Syndrome Foundation Spain.

Any participant is allowed to cancel his/her registration but must notify this to the conference organisers by e-mail at [email protected] within a minimum of 10 days prior the event. Failure to attend the event without prior written notification by email may incur a no-show fee, which shall cover individual organizational, material and catering costs.

Name Change
All registrations are only valid for the respective person mentioned in the form. A registered participant unable to attend the conference may nominate (free of charge) a substitute participant by notifying the conference organisers by email at [email protected] before 16th of March 2023. The procedure allows giving the last name, first name, and email address of the new participant.

Personal Data
Upon registration, the participant authorises Dravet Syndrome Foundation Spain to use their personal data stated above to inform the participant of any further conferences, events, or information concerning the conference and Dravet Syndrome Foundation Spain’s activities. The conference booklet online will only contain authors, titles, and affiliations of submitted abstracts, but no full abstract texts. The conference printed booklet will contain full abstract texts from all participants. Conference certificates will be sent to the participants as a PDF document upon request at [email protected]. Only the name & affiliation will be stated in the certificate, not the email addresses of the participants.

Information is collected by an automated computer system that manages registrations. Security and confidentiality are guaranteed by state-of-the-art technical tools. However, Dravet Syndrome Foundation Spain declines any responsibility concerning data security transmitted through the internet.

Photography
The conference is held in public; therefore, we do not ban participants, exhibitors, partners and other companies from taking photographs of conference activities and participants, and share it via social media. By participating in the conference, you approve that general pictures will be taken and used for our Social Media output, our websites and other communication purposes. You hereby waive any right to oppose, and expressly authorise the organiser to make them available on the Internet or as it may seem fit. Author’s presentation slides shall not be photographed by any conference participant. 

Disclaimer
The conference organiser cannot be held responsible for any loss, injury or damage to any property, whatever the cause may be.
