Entrevistamos a la familia Lucas Arbosa

La familia Lucas Arbosa está formada por cinco miembros: los padres Félix y Raquel; y Aitor, Julen y Ander. Pertenecen a la Fundación Síndrome de Dravet desde el 24 de noviembre del 2011. Como Ander ya es un adolescente, tienen mucha experiencia y conocimientos sobre el síndrome de Dravet. Además, podrás comprobar en esta entrevista que quieren ser un apoyo para otras familias porque «la lucha es por y para todos».

Para aquellos que son más nuevos con este síndrome, la familia Lucas Arbosa os regala estos maravillosos consejos:
– Que no se encierren en casa.
– Que hagan actividades con el niño.
– Que intenten disfrutar lo poco bueno que trae esta enfermedad porque, a veces, tomar un café puede ser mucho más que ir a cenar al mejor restaurante del mundo. Igual no podemos hacer un viaje a Bali, pero el pueblo de al lado puede ser tan bonito o más.
– Que pidan ayuda a la familia, amigos…
– Que cuiden del peque, pero que se cuiden ellos también.
– Que se apoyen en los que tenemos hijos más mayores.
– Que no pierdan nunca la esperanza, porque esto te permite vivir.

¿A qué se dedican mamá y papá?
El aita (padre) es inspector en la compañía municipal de autobuses urbanos en Donostia-San Sebastián y la ama (madre) trabaja de dependienta en una tienda de productos ecológicos de alimentación. El aita actualmente está con una reducción del 99% para poder cuidar a Ander en condiciones.

PREGUNTAS SOBRE ANDER

¿Con quién juega?
Ander juega con sus amigos con quienes comparte salidas con voluntarios. En el recreo del cole juega con sus compañeros (que estudian con él) y con el resto de los chavales y chavalas de otras clases porque todos le quieren un montón.
Por supuesto, le gustan los videojuegos de la Wii o la PlayStation, donde juega a conducir coches que hace golpear farolas y las tira. También le gusta jugar al béisbol, billar, bolos, con balón en la calle y pedalear feliz en su triciclo de adulto.

¿Qué le gusta?
Le gusta ver videos en su móvil (sobre todo los Fraggle Rock), estar en familia, con sus tíos, primos, abuelos. Le gusta mucho ver libros y que le lean, le gusta estar por la noche en el sofá viendo una película con la ama y el aita, los puzles y le encanta «bautizar» todo con un poquillo de mayonesa.

¿Qué le disgusta?
No le gustan las discusiones, las voces altas, ni los ruidos fuertes, y puede llegar a llorar de tristeza si quien está enfrente está triste.

¿Le gustan los animales?
Sí, le gustan todos en general. En especial nuestro perrito Dafi, aunque ya murió. Para él está vivo en el cielo. No entiende eso de «vivo» o «muerto». Para Ander, Dafi está en el cielo como podría estar en un parque.

¿Tiene algún cuento del que no se separe?
Muchos, sobre todo el de Caperucita Roja del que le encanta el lobo, los cuentos de Pirritx y Porrotx (son unos payasos para niños de la zona norte), unos cuentos de una colección que usaba en el colegio (Izei Txiki ―el pequeño abeto―, Kosmeren Gezurrak ―las mentiras de kosme―, Mielotxin eta Ziripot ―estos son personajes mitológicos vascos), le gusta mucho últimamente Zapatagorri (zapatos rojos) y, sobre todo, un par de libros de los Fraggle que son de hace tiempo.

¿En casa se comunica frecuentemente con mamá y papá?
Sí, a su manera, pero sí, además mezcla euskera y castellano, pero se hace entender.

¿Tiene berrinches con frecuencia?
Alguno aún sí, antes más, es algo que va a menos, sobre todo al ir al colegio o a alguna actividad que se diera cuenta que no estábamos los padres. Es algo que trabajamos mucho en casa y poco a poco va mejor.

¿Cómo le tranquilizáis?
Intentamos cambiar de actividad, intentando entretenerle con algo que le pueda atraer más en ese momento.

PREGUNTAS SOBRE EL DIAGNÓSTICO DE ANDER

¿Cuándo le diagnosticaron síndrome de Dravet? ¿Qué edad tenía?
En el año 2008. Tenía tres años y medio.

¿Conocías la enfermedad?
No.

¿A quién pedisteis ayuda/consejo para que os guiara?
– Al neurólogo y fue en balde.
– Buscamos en internet, no había casi nada.
– Nos planteamos crear una asociación en Donostia-San Sebastián y en ese periodo nos llamaron desde la Fundación Síndrome de Dravet. Nos dijeron que se había creado para luchar por investigar, así que en ese mismo momento vimos que este era nuestro sitio.

¿Sigue el paciente algún tratamiento?
Sí, toma diferentes medicaciones: ácido valproico, stiripentol, clobanzam y cannabidiol, además de hormona del crecimiento que la tenía descompensada. Ander empezó con cannabidiol en ensayo clínico y también ha participado en el ensayo clínico de Ovid Therapeutics con TAK935, pero después de año y medio no ha sido efectivo y lo hemos dejado. En estas fechas estamos pendientes de poder tomar fenfluramina porque estamos con un promedio de 1-2 crisis por semana.

¿Ha cambiado con el tiempo?
Sí, ha tenido mejores y peores épocas, tanto en comportamiento como en crisis.
Ahora está más adolescente y es más difícil dominarle. Su cuerpo es más grande, con una mente de un niño de tres o cuatro años y ya pesa 50 kg, por lo que cuando le dan crisis epiléticas es difícil poder con él.

¿Hubieseis hecho algo diferente?
No.

¿Hay algo que creáis que necesita una mejora inmediata del sistema sanitario?
Sí, que los profesionales escuchen más a los padres, que intenten saber más sobre este tipo de enfermedades, pero como comprendo que de todo no pueden saber, que no se crean “dioses” y que también pidan ayuda, que se dirijan a los centros de referencia.

PREGUNTAS SOBRE EL DÍA A DÍA

¿Cómo de difícil es compaginar trabajo y a un hijo con síndrome de Dravet?
Es casi imposible hacerlo bien, por eso me he visto obligado a reducir la jornada y esta reducción ha ido a más según crecía Ander y ahora, con la pandemia, pues más.

¿Cuál es vuestra rutina?
Levantar, desayunar, hacer la cama, lavar dientes, vestir, ir al colegio (entra a las 9:30), donde tiene un horario que cambia cada día, come en el cole, le voy a buscar a las 14:00 y por la tarde, si no toca piscina, logopeda o actividad de refuerzo con otros amigos suyos (en plan dibujar, recortar, aprender monedas y horas…), damos un paseo andando o en bici (triciclo) por el barrio.

¿Y durante los fines de semana?
El finde es para pasear también, pero intentamos con tíos y abuelos y normalmente los sábados hace terapia con caballos. Un domingo de cada dos tiene actividad con sus amigos y van a pasear, al acuárium, al cine…

¿Cuál es la actividad favorita de Ander?
Si está solo, pues el móvil para ver vídeos o hacer puzles. En la calle los columpios le gustan mucho. Pero sobre todo asustar a la amona (abuela). Si se da muy fuerte, se parte de la risa.

¿Cómo está siendo la pandemia con un adolescente con síndrome de Dravet?
Duro… Fueron los primeros en salir de su rutina y los últimos en volver. Hacíamos un montón de actividades en casa intentando no perder lo aprendido. Aún no ha recuperado alguna actividad de grupo, como deporte adaptado. Y si salías, debías tener precaución para que no te dijeran nada. La verdad es que a nosotros nos conocen bastante en nuestra zona y no hemos tenido problema.
Por lo demás, eso de poca interacción social o largos periodos en casa, ya estamos acostumbrados. La diferencia más notable ha sido la mascarilla que ahora hay que llevar. Pero lo que más ha echado en falta es ver a los abuelos.

No.

Sí.

La petición la haría a las familias de la Fundación: merece la pena luchar, y la lucha es por y para todos. Hace falta más gente apoyando la labor de la Fundación Síndrome de Dravet.

Que hablen con los que tenemos chavales más mayores y que no dejen de luchar nunca.

TERMS & CONDITIONS

The Dravet Syndrome Conference 2023 is organised by Dravet Syndrome Foundation Spain, whose registered office is located at Calle Doctor Fleming, 30, 28036 Madrid, Spain.

The conference shall take place at the Official College of Nursing of Madrid, at Avenida de Menéndez Pelayo, 93, 28007 Madrid, Spain, on Thursday 23rd of March 2023. Attendance to this conference is free of charge, but mandatory for organisational reasons.

Participants must register online at www.dravetconference.com. Upon registration, each participant will receive an electronic confirmation by email. On-site registration will not be be possible. If a participant has not received the official email registration confirmation within 3 days, they must contact the conference secretariat at [email protected].

The conference registration includes: Attendance to all sessions, oral and visual presentations, all coffee and lunch breaks, and conference documentation with all information about the event. The registration does not include travel and accommodation costs or any other personal expenses.

Admittance to the conference without registration cannot be granted.

Conference Attendance
Upon arrival at the Official College of Nursing of Madrid the day of the event, all participants have to check-in at the onsite Conference Registration Desk. The desk will open on 23rd of March at 8:30 a.m. Upon registration onsite, the conference team will provide participants with information about the event and a badge, which should be worn visibly at all times. The personalised badge authorises participants to attend all conference sessions, and lunch and coffee breaks.

Cancellation Policy
Dravet Syndrome Foundation Spain reserves the right to cancel any registration forthwith and without liability on its part in the event of any damage to, or destruction of the venue by fire, shortage of labour, strikes, industrial unrest, public health measures, or any other cause beyond the control of the Dravet Syndrome Foundation Spain, which shall prevent it from performing its obligations. In these circumstances, every effort will be made to find an alternative format/venue or propose a new date for the conference. Should the conference be cancelled for any reason, airfares, hotels, or other costs incurred by the participants are not reimbursed by the Dravet Syndrome Foundation Spain.

Any participant is allowed to cancel his/her registration but must notify this to the conference organisers by e-mail at [email protected] within a minimum of 10 days prior the event. Failure to attend the event without prior written notification by email may incur a no-show fee, which shall cover individual organizational, material and catering costs.

Name Change
All registrations are only valid for the respective person mentioned in the form. A registered participant unable to attend the conference may nominate (free of charge) a substitute participant by notifying the conference organisers by email at [email protected] before 16th of March 2023. The procedure allows giving the last name, first name, and email address of the new participant.

Personal Data
Upon registration, the participant authorises Dravet Syndrome Foundation Spain to use their personal data stated above to inform the participant of any further conferences, events, or information concerning the conference and Dravet Syndrome Foundation Spain’s activities. The conference booklet online will only contain authors, titles, and affiliations of submitted abstracts, but no full abstract texts. The conference printed booklet will contain full abstract texts from all participants. Conference certificates will be sent to the participants as a PDF document upon request at [email protected]. Only the name & affiliation will be stated in the certificate, not the email addresses of the participants.

Information is collected by an automated computer system that manages registrations. Security and confidentiality are guaranteed by state-of-the-art technical tools. However, Dravet Syndrome Foundation Spain declines any responsibility concerning data security transmitted through the internet.

Photography
The conference is held in public; therefore, we do not ban participants, exhibitors, partners and other companies from taking photographs of conference activities and participants, and share it via social media. By participating in the conference, you approve that general pictures will be taken and used for our Social Media output, our websites and other communication purposes. You hereby waive any right to oppose, and expressly authorise the organiser to make them available on the Internet or as it may seem fit. Author’s presentation slides shall not be photographed by any conference participant. 

Disclaimer
The conference organiser cannot be held responsible for any loss, injury or damage to any property, whatever the cause may be. Should, for any reason outside the organiser’s control (e.g., political or economic circumstances or a case of ‘force majeure’), the venue or speakers change, or the event be cancelled, the organiser will endeavour to reschedule, but shall not be held responsible for any costs, damages or expenses incurred by the participants. The conference booklet online will only contain authors, titles, and affiliations of submitted abstracts, but no full abstract texts. The conference printed booklet will contain full abstract texts from all participants. Conference certificates will be sent to the participants as a PDF document upon request at [email protected]. Only the name & affiliation will be stated in the certificate, not the email addresses of the participants.

Information is collected by an automated computer system that manages registrations. Security and confidentiality are guaranteed by state-of-the-art technical tools. However, Dravet Syndrome Foundation Spain declines any responsibility concerning data security transmitted through the internet.

Photography
The conference is held in public; therefore, we do not ban participants, exhibitors, partners and other companies from taking photographs of conference activities and participants, and share it via social media. By participating in the conference, you approve that general pictures will be taken and used for our Social Media output, our websites and other communication purposes. You hereby waive any right to oppose, and expressly authorise the organiser to make them available on the Internet or as it may seem fit. Author’s presentation slides shall not be photographed by any conference participant.

The conference organiser cannot be held responsible for any loss, injury or damage to any property, whatever the cause may be. Should, for any reason outside the organiser’s control (e.g., political or economic circumstances or a case of ‘force majeure’), the venue or speakers change, or the event be cancelled, the organiser will endeavour to reschedule, but shall not be held responsible for any costs, damages or expenses incurred by the participants. If for any reason the organiser decides to make material changes to this conference, the organiser is not responsible for airfares, hotels or other costs incurred by the participants. The participant takes part in the conference, all tours, and trips at his own risk.
